I have updated the site so that it is now in non-crisis mode. I have hidden the many posts offering help and asking for help due to the very personal nature of those communications. I am so thrilled the families of Los Alamos are home! If you need any kind of information or help, please don’t hesitate to ask and I would be more than happy to go through the resources generated during the crisis. Email needHelp@helplosalamos.com.

Woman with Cat Hoping for Place in Santa Fe or El Dorado to Escape Smoke
Son writes in on behalf of his mother asking for help…
She lives in El Rito and has respiratory and other health issues which are making it tough for her to stay there where the smoke has become severe. She needs a place to stay for herself and her cat in Santa Fe or El Dorado where the air is clearer. If at all possible she needs a self-contained space with a kitchen, like a studio apartment or guesthouse or similar. Please email Sam at Sam@thejonesfirm.com or call 505-660-7911 with any possibilities.

Call Angel Fire Visitors Center at 575-377-6555 for more information!
ANGEL FIRE, NM [June 30, 2011] – The Village of Angel Fire announced today that a number of property owners from the area are opening up their homes and condos to Los Alamos evacuees. Nearly ninety properties have been made available for the next several days to provide shelter and comfort to those displaced by the fire. The available condos may sleep four to eight people and the homes eight to twelve each. Los Alamos residents from the evacuated areas are encouraged to call the Angel Fire Visitors Center at 575-377-6555 for more information.
“Several of our homes and condos are unoccupied at this time and can be used to help those in need,” said Marc Harrell, local businessman and Angel Fire property owner. “We are thankful Angel Fire has been spared from the fires at this point and want to do what we can for our neighbors.” Harrell has worked with a variety of local property management companies over the past week to secure the properties.
Angel Fire, located in northern New Mexico in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, is a beautiful small town community with friendly people, a cool summer climate, spectacular scenery and an active and healthy lifestyle. We offer an excellent quality of life and grow each year toward a smarter, greener and stronger future.

When Can Residents Return to Los Alamos
We hope as soon as possible. LANL website states this , “7/1/2011 9:29 – LANL announced Wednesday that it would remain closed through Friday, July 1″.
Obviously, LANL employess won’t be expected to return to work until the evacuation order is lifted. Where are the 14,000 people? I would imagine that families are in hotels, vacation rentals, with friends and family, in shelters, and with folks found from this website willing to share housing.
This was posted on the Los Alamos County website yesterday 6-30 at 2pm:
Evacuation Update
As firefighters continue to fight the Las Conchas Fire, Los Alamos County staff is beginning preparation for the repopulation of the town site. No date has been established at this time for the reopening of the community, however, there are certain facts Los Alamos residents should be aware of as they return.
First and foremost, the situation that exists today with the Las Conches Fire is quite different than what the town experienced with the Cerro Grande Fire of 2000. The town site has incurred no damage and no structures have been lost due to the fire. In addition, all utility services, including electricity, have remained active – refrigerators and freezers have remained powered on throughout the evacuation.
Residents will receive notification of the repopulation of the community as soon as fire officials determine it is safe to return. Los Alamos County 311 Customer Care Center will remain open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dial 311 from a landline or 662-8333 from a cell phone.

Families Beginning to Consider Longer Term Options
Families that have been displaced by the wildfires have spent time in shelters, hotels, friends’ homes, and are now starting to consider their longer term options. We all hope the order for evacuations are lifted very soon and that the families can return to their own homes. If you or someone you know has a more private home-like option to share, please consider offering it to a fire displaced family. Private and empty homes, casitas, guest houses, apartments are in great demand today as these families start to wonder what their next step is in this great disaster.
